The Review: Beautiful Disaster – Jamie McGuire

I have been very lazy with getting started on this review. I don’t know why, because I had planned on writing it the day after I finished it, you know, when I still remembered every event in the book and all the emotions I had afterward. The book was certainly not the problem, because I loved it very, very much! So obviously I ended up not writing it the day after I finished it, and now all I have to blame is myself… Sorry.

Beautiful Disaster is a beautiful piece of work written by an amazing author named Jamie McGuire. I love the way she tells this story and how honestly she writes it. In a way this book was very realistic but the excitement made it feel like a great fantasy book about love. It is not a fantasy book, but the hidden story behind both of the main characters, Travis and Abby, made it feel like one. I was thinking about re-reading it before I (finally) wrote the review. I really thought about it, but came to the conclusion that NO. I will not go through that traumatic, roller-coaster ride of emotions again so soon!! I am serious, it would screw with my head and break my heart. I wouldn’t be able to think clearly before I had finished it again.

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1)

This book is just filled with emotions, drama, love, hate, craziness and love again. It literally brings your pulse up to limited speed. The characters are so intense and pretty much all over the place. The love-interest of the book is this bad-boy named Travis. Travis “Mad Dog” Maddox. No kidding. At first I loved him, then I kind of hated him, then I loved him again, I hated him and at last I loved and adored him even more than I had before! Travis is very tough and bad-ass on the outside, but he is such a week person on the inside. He has such a lovable personality, but I think he kind of has an anger issue…

Then we have Abby Abernathy (or Pigeon, as Travis calls her. – So freaking cute!). She is the main character and protagonist. At first she seems so little, week and like such a good girl. Turns out this is not even close to the truth! Abby is in no way week and actually has a very deep and interesting past. I love that Abby is such an independent woman and doesn’t keep up with people’s bullshit. Abby also has an amazing best friend, America, whom I also adored so much. America is needed to make this book the best. She knows about Abby’s past, and loves her like a sister.

I really, really love this story. It is freaking hilarious and I could barely put it down. And please, do not think that this book is all lovey dovey with some drama mixed in, because it sure as h*ll is not. There is a lot of action, heartbreak and other shit going down as well! I am definitely going to read Walking Disaster, which is the (kind of) sequel to Beautiful Disaster, when it comes out on April 2nd. Walking Disaster is pretty much the same story, but told from Travis’s point of view. I can’t wait to experience all the trauma and heartbreak again, except in a little different way!
